Our answers to the questions you have

Is there certain documentation required to work at EYC?

Yes. We require the following documentation upon hire:

  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • Drivers Abstract
  • Copy of Driver’s License
  • Copy of Car Insurance
  • Immunization Record
  • Confirmation of Medical Fitness – this is a letter from your doctor stating you are fit to work in group care.
  • Copy of Diploma
  • TCI Certificate (if already trained)
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate (if trained)
  • Proof of COVID vaccinations

We will also require you to complete a Child Welfare Record Check Consent Form upon hire.

Where are the programs located?

Our programs are located in the West End of the Ottawa-Carleton Region – Carleton Place, Carp, Kanata, Stittsville and Almonte.

Is there additional training available when I join EYC?

Yes. As a new hire you are required to complete a variety of training.

WHMIS, AODA, WSIB

Once you’ve received an employment offer via e-mail, you will notice three links for the following trainings,
– Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)
– Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
– Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

These trainings must be completed with the certificate of completion submitted to Human Resources before the initial meeting.

Initial/Final Meeting

Upon hire you will be scheduled to come in for an initial meeting. During this meeting, you will be given an orientation package and scheduled orientation shifts on the floor at one of the programs to complete your package. Once you have completed your orientation shifts, you will then be scheduled a time to come in for your final meeting. During this final meeting, you will have to complete 2 online trainings. One about Aboriginal Culture and the other about our Policies, Procedures and Programming.

TCI Training

Within 30 days of hire you are also required to complete a mandatory Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. This training is 3 and a half days totaling 34 hours – consisting of crisis management and prevention techniques as well as, holds and restraints.
Once certified in TCI, you are only required to complete an 8-hour TCI Recertification training annually.

Fire Training

As an employee at EYC, you are also required to attend a mandatory Fire Safety training. This training is provided through a third party and takes an hour to complete. This training needs to be completed annually as well.

Does EYC offer benefits?

Yes. Our medical/dental/life insurance benefit package is offered to full-time employees once they have completed their 3-month probationary period.

In fact, we encourage our team members to continue to advance their skill sets and experience by offering additional culturally-informed training courses provided by SafeGuards Trauma Informed Training. Compensatory promotions are also provided as skill sets, experience and length of employment continue to rise.
